Background summary
Randomized longitudinal Observational study – elective pharmacotherapy course of 4th professional (8th semester) (selected topics were T2DM, HPT and Obesity) – pre-post intervention questionnaire survey (compare baseline knowledge, confidence, authenticate sources of information – further divided resources to selection of medication / refereeing guidelines / managing comorbidities / managing DDIs / managing ADRs / self-opinion supported references). Each Domain (like T2DM, HPT and Obesity) have separate subdomains and students were selected for domain (like Student 1 – T2DM, Student 2 – HPT and student 3 – Obesity) e.g., selection of medication / refereeing guidelines / managing comorbidities / managing DDIs / managing ADRs / self-opinion supported references).
Self-administered pre-post questionnaire survey.
Staff to student ratio: 1:15 (total staff involved were 10 + 2 – assistant)
Place: College of Pharmacy, Taibah university, KSA
Participant call procedure: every Wednesday – Thursday (from 18.00 – 24.00) students will receive call from emergency department / inpatient ward (virtual) and provide case scenario with relevant information – students’ were entitled to ask for additional information if necessary – then 10 – 15 min were provided to analyze the situation and respond back to same number with solution / suggestion (with legitimate supported reference). Every following Monday students had feedback tutorial session; in which student need to write a report on pseudo-oncall case with supported discussion on clinical solution made and legitimate citation/reference. Afterwards later that week again new clinical sub-domain introduced in pseudo-oncall and cycle goes on. Data analysis was made using IBM SPSS Statistics, version 22 (Armok, NY). A probability of <0.05 was considered statistically significant for all tests. All variables were analyzed using descriptive analysis.
Study objective
Clinical practices improve with disease based knowledge.
