Outcome measures
Primary outcome
An improvement >= 50 meters on the six minutes walk test on the day before surgery, compared to baseline
Secondary outcome
30-day complications, HRQL and disability at three months after surgery
Background summary
Preoperative physical inactivity is a major cause of loss of function after abdominal surgery. The preoperative period can be used to increase muscle strength and improve the endurance of patients (prehabilitation). Treatment adherence plays an important role in successful prehabilitation. This study investigates the effect of an activity tracker on preoperative endurance in the elderly with colorectal cancer.
Study objective
An activity tracker improves preoperative gait speed in elderly colorectal cancer patients compared to a standard prehabilitation program
Study design
Baseline (at time of CRC diagnosis), day -1 (day before surgery), day 30, 3 months.
Intervention
Preoperative exercise training
Inclusion criteria
elective surgery for CRC, age >=70 years
