Intervention
Outcome measures
Primary outcome
* psychotic reaction
* change in D2 receptor binding
* cortisol reactivity
Background summary
The essence of psychosis is that some individuals abnormally react to stress with psychotic symptoms. This will hereafter be referred to as psychotic reactivity to stress. Psychotic reactivity to stress is thought to be the result of an interaction between genetic and environmental predispositions on the one hand, and the impact of changes in the environment experienced as stressful on the other. However, the origins and mechanisms of psychotic reactivity to stress are still poorly understood, and this project contributes to their elucidation.
Study objective
- The level of psychotic reactivity differs between psychotic trait, state, and illness groups
- Psychotic reactivity is mediated by biological reactivity in terms of dopamine and cortisol reactivity
- The level of psychotic reactivity is influenced by genetic polymorphisms and early trauma
Study design
* momentary assessment (60 measurement points - 10 times a day during 6 days)
* laboratory stress task
Intervention
This is not an intervention study.
The study is about the effect of stress on the brain.
There is a control condition and a stress condition.
