Risico op besmetting met SARS-CoV-2 in artsen
Uit onderzoek naar de SARS uitbraak in 2003 bleek dat ongeveer de helft van de besmettingen plaatsvonden bij zorgpersoneel, en met name bij degenen die aerosol generende handelingen uitvoerden, zoals intubaties. Er is weinig bekend over het risico op besmetting met SARS-CoV-2 onder artsen die betrokken waren bij de zorg voor COVID-19 patiënten in de afgelopen maanden. Het is evenmin duidelijk of dit risico verschillend is onder artsen van verschillende specialismen. Dit soort informatie is voor verschillende beroepsgroepen echter van groot belang, vooral om te zien of de beschermende maatregelen afdoende waren.
Het doel van dit onderzoek is om het risico op besmetting met SARS-CoV-2 bij artsen in kaart te brengen. We willen daarbij tevens onderscheid maken tussen artsen die COVID-19 patiënten hebben behandeld op de ICU en/of op een COVID-19 cohort afdeling, versus artsen die niet betrokken waren bij de behandeling van COVID-19 patiënten. Concreet willen wij een vergelijking maken van het percentage besmette anesthesiologen, internisten, intensivisten, versus longartsen, versus chirurgen, versus psychiaters en revalidatieartsen.
Risk of contamination with SASR-CoV-2 amongst physicians
Research into the SARS outbreak in 2003 showed that approximately half of the infections were in health care personnel, especially those who performed aerosol generating procedures, such as intubations. Little is known about the risk of infection with SARS-CoV-2 amongst doctors who were involved in caring for patients with COVID-19 in the last months. It is also unclear if the risk is different in the various medical specialities. This type of information, however is of great importance to evaluate whether the protective measures used were sufficient to prevent infection. The goal of this study is to determine the incidence of infection of SARS-CoV-2 in doctors. We would like to distinguish between doctors who looked after patients on the ICU and/or a COVID-19 ward, versus doctors who were not involved in the care of COVID-19 patients. We would specifically like to look at the percentage of infected anesthesiologists, physicians, intensivists versus pulmonologists, versus surgeons, versus psychiatrists, versus rehabilitation doctors.

Doctors exposed to aerosol generating procedures (AGP) are more at risk of contracting COVID-19 than those not exposed to AGP

Inclusion criteria
Any physician in the following specialities, working in the Netherlands, during the COVID-19 outbreak (anesthesiologists, internal medicine, intensive care medicine, surgeons, pulmonologists, rehabilitation doctors and psychiatrists).
