Background summary
Personal injury victims (traffic accidents) will be empowered through an internet intervention containing information and e-coaching.
Study objective
The internet intervention will enhance empowerment, perceived justice, wellbeing and knowledge of personal injury victims during claims settlement.
Study design
1. Baseline (T0);
2. 3 months after baseline (T1);
3. 6 months after baseline (T2);
4. 12 months after baseline (T3).
Intervention
The intervention group will get access to an internet website (www.gripopmijnzaak.nl) providing an information module, an e-coach module and a frequently asked questions section.
The information module contains general information about claims settlement, the representative, the opposite party, social services and conflict solutions.
The e-coach module is an online course of five weekly lessons, based on the Self Examination Therapy developed by Bowman (1995), in which participants learn to deal with worries and problems.
The control group will get access to a sham website providing only a couple of hyperlinks to 1) websites with information about claims settlement, the Dutch Judiciary, the Dutch social security organisation, and 2) non-profit support organisations, and companion groups.
Personal injury victims will be recruited via a representative office. The study/intervention will take one year.
