Background summary
Patients with psoriatic arthritis might not be diagnosed timely in the
Netherlands, because dermatologists who treat psoriasis patients, do not
actively search for articular involvement. By means of a specially designed
questionnaire, patients might be diagnosed earlier, treated adequately and
structural damage might be prevented. Self-reported measures of functional
ability are important indicators of health status in persons with rheumatic
disease [2] and therefore they will be used also in the present study.
Study objective
The objective of this study is to detect what percentage of psoriasis patients
require treatment for their arthritic manifestations.
Study design
120 patiënten with psoriasis and arthritic manifestations will be divided into
3 groups:
1. mono-articular (1 jointt)
2. oligo-articular (2-4 joints)
3. poly-articular (5 or more joints)
Patients undergo the following:
- 68 tender and 66 swollen joint count (joint score)
- PASI-score (skin score)
- blood sampling for the determination of rheumafactor, CRP and ESR.
