Primary outcome
research question 1:
Percentage of patient records in which scores on the core-set of MATE-ICN
domains does not correspond with the provided description. The core-set are:
Acquiring a place to live, Household tasks, Self care, Ensuring one's physical
comfort, Managing diet, Treatment compliance, Maintaining one's health, and
Daily routine.
research question 2:
Rate of agreement in scores on the domains of MATE-ICN between health
professionals and
rate of agreement in scores on the domains of MATE-ICN between health
professionals and researchers.
research question 3:
Concurrent validity is established by calculating correlations between MATE-ICN
scores and HoNOS scores.
Secondary outcome
Research question 1:
Opinions of health professionals on the MATE-ICN (perceived constraints).
Feasibility of MATE-ICN according to health professionals.
Number of visits to the facility per visitor.
Rate of MATE-ICN assessments not carried out or that were too late (over 14
days past planned assessment).
Rate of care plans not drawn up or drawn up too late (over 14 days as planned).
Background summary
The "Zorgcentra" in the city of Utrecht are easiliy accessible services for
homeless drugaddicts. The aim is to decrease drug related nuisance and to give
shelter to drug addicts. This centre provides drug consumption rooms and basic
facilities are available (food, drinks and washing). Partly due to the bad
health state of the visitors the initial goal was expanded. Nowadays the
centres has its function as a front door to public mental health. This function
includes case-finding and referral of the visitors to psychosocial and medical
care. This function shift demands adjustments en expansion of documentation of
relevant patient information. Therefore, a new instrument for assessment and
monitoring of visitors functioning is implemented. This instrument is named
MATE-ICN.
Study objective
Aim of this study is first, to investigate whether implementation of the
MATE-ICN was succesfull. Second, to explore reliability and validity of the
MATE-ICN in this setting.
research questions:
1. To what degree is the structured and standardised documentation executed in
accordance to instructions in this centre?
2. What is the interraterreliability of MATE-ICN between health professionals
and what is the interraterreliability of MATE-ICN between health professionals
and researchers?
3. What is the correspondence of MATE-ICN and the Health of the Nations
Outcomes Scale (HoNOS)?
Study design
research question 1:
This naturallistic cohort study consists of 3 measurements in a year. The first
data-collection will take pace in the first month, and 6 and 12 months after
startup of the project. Data is collected from the patient records. The health
professionals of this centre fill out several questionnaires.
research question 2:
interraterreliability between health professionals is explored by judgement of
video-recordings of MATE-ICN interviews. Therefore visitors of a comparable
facility in another city in the county of Utrecht are approached, who are
unknown to the raters.
interraterreliability between researchers and health professionals is explored
by comparing MATE-ICN scores from the patient records to the MATE-ICN scores
collected by researchers. Data is collected in the first and twelth month of
the study.
research question 3:
Concurrent validity between MATE-ICN and HoNOS is explored by reseachers who
conduct the HoNOS after the MATE-ICN interview (question 2).
Study burden and risks
The risc for respondents who are to be interviewd is nil. Some fatigue may
occur but is temporary
the demand in time duration is one hour per interview. Only visitors of the
facility in Utrecht are interviewed twice with a time interval of one year.
