Background summary
Since 1994 the DC 0-3R is used as an extenion of the DSM-IV, which is a
psychiatric classifiction system aimed at children aged 0 to 3 years. The
majority of children treated at Bavo Europort has been diagnosed a regulation
disorder according to the DC 0-3R. A regulation disorder could be a precursor
of several psychiatric disorders according to DSM-IV, among which ADHD,
conductdisorers, anxietydisorders and pervasive developmental disorders.
Because the DC0-3R has only recently been developed, little is kown about the
predictive value and related child and environmental factors of the regulation
disorder leading to specif psychopathology at older age. It is important to
gain more insight in factors related to different developmental trajectories.
The outcomes of this study might lead to more specific and adequate treatment
of regulation disorder to reduce the risk of future behaviour and emotional
problems in children.
Study objective
To investigate which factors contribute to the existance of psychopathology
after treatment for a regulation disorder according to DC 0-3R.
Study design
A descriptive explorative retrospective follow-up study.
Study burden and risks
The burden of participation is limited to filling out 5 questionnaires that are
related to psychiatric and child rearing problems and will take approximately
one hour. Additionally, parents will be asked permision to approach teachers
for filling out two questionnaires. There are no risk related to participation.
Although, one could argue that it will be confronting to parents to think about
psychiatric and child rearing problems of there children, scientific research
up til now has not shown that this will be harmful for mental health of parents
and their children.
