Secondary outcome

reduction of behavioral disturbances
Background summary
Circadian rhyhtms are actively re-inforced by the presense of day-light.
People in nursery homes are seldomly exposed to direct day-light. Knowledge has
become available that the effects of daylight can be mimmicked with artificial
light of a certain intensity (>1000 lux) and color (blue-ish light 1000K)
Application of this light in a specific pattern may be used to re-inforce the
circadian rhythm by these people.
Study objective
To investigate the effects of dynamic ligthing in an elderly population living
in a nursery home
Study design
experimental group (Aqua)
A) dynamic lighting + measurement of activity (actimeter)
Control group (Sonne)
B) measurement of activity (actimeter)
Each group is followed during 3 months
Intervention
introduction of dynamic lighting
Study burden and risks
introduction of artificial light can cause a burden
having to ware a wrist watch to support activity measurement can be regarded to
as a burden.
