Background summary
During insight meditation the chaotic, impersonal and impermanent nature of
mental states (i.e., the so-called three characteristics (3C) of consciousness;
Barendregt, 1996) can be perceived. This state may be related to the
dissociative state that can be experienced in schizophrenia. Recording brain
activity during the 3C state may give us more insight in brain processes during
such dissociative state.

question whether the 3C can be domesticated will be addressed.

Study burden and risks
Risks are not expected. The burden of the participants consists of 2 site
visits, consisting of a psychiatric interview, 2 questionnaires, and EEG
recording.

- Age between 21 and 65 years;Additional inclusion criterion for meditators:
- To be able to experience the 3C state and to switch between the 3C state and a *normal* relaxed state.
Exclusion criteria
- Psychiatric disorders currently or in the past
