Outcome measures
Primary outcome
Number of adequate surgical margins compared on retrospectively analysed data of tongue and buccal cancers in our center.
Secondary outcome
Number of post-operative treatments (re-resection or irradiation) compared on retrospectively analysed data of tongue and buccal cancers in our center.
Background summary
Since US probes have become smaller in the last decades, we aim to use intra-operative ultrasound during resection of early tongue and buccal squamous cell carconimas to limit the number of close and positive resection margins and reduce the number of re-resections or postoperative irradiation.
Study objective
We expect to reduce to achieve more adequate surgical margins after tongue and buccal resections.
Study design
Pre-operative, intra-operative
Intervention
Intra-oral tumor resection
Inclusion criteria
Patients with a squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue and buccal mucosa, visible on the ultrasound imaging modality.
Exclusion criteria
Squamous cell carcinoma is invisible on the ultrasound imaging modality.
