Outcome measures
Primary outcome
Renal vascular resistance.
Secondary outcome
Glomerular filtration rate, total peripheral vascular resistance, blood pressure, plasma volume, arterial and venous compliance and cardiovascular morbidity.
Background summary
Preeclampsia is associated with an increased risk on the development of cardiovascular and renal disease. It seems that similar risk factors are both predictive for preeclampsia and cardiovascular disease. We hypothise that women with a history of preeclampsia have accelerated vascular aging in comparison with controls. Our primary objective is to compare the changes in renal vascular resistance in 10 years between women with a history of preeclampsia and controls. This is a longitudinal case-control study in which 20 formerly preeclamptic women and 10 controls will be included. Those women are recruited from a previous study performed in the period of 1996-1999. The same measurements, including blood pressure, PAH/inulin clearance, plasmavolume, arterial/venous compliance and echocardiography, will be performed.
Study objective
We hypothise that women with a history of preeclampsia have accelerated vascular aging in comparison with control women with uncomplicated pregnancies.
Study design
One day.
Intervention
None; observational case-control study.
