Outcome measures
Primary outcome
English: The total volume of postoperative blood loss during the first 6 hours after surgery
Dutch: Postoperatief volume bloedverlies (=thoraxdrainvolume) gedurende de eerste zes
uur postoperatief.
Secondary outcome
English:
- The total volume of postoperative blood loss during the first 12 hours after surgery
- The total volume of postoperative blood loss during the first 24 hours after surgery
- The amount of transfused allogenic blood products in the first 24 hours of surgery
- The rate of bleeding complications occuring during the initial hospital admission
- The rate of re-operations due to bleeding complications occuring during the initial hospital admission
- The correlation between the level of platelet reactivity as measured with the Multiplate assay in blood that was heparinized in-vivo and standard hirudin-treated blood at timepoint T1 (patient on HLM)
- The correlation between Multiplate and VerifyNow assay results and platelet count, hemoglobin and hematocrit
- Totale length of hospital stay in days

Platelet reactivity assays and thromboelastography can predict postoperative blood loss at 6 hours after combined coronary artery bypass grafting and valve surgery
Dutch:
Plaatjesreactiviteit en thromboelastografie kunnen postoperatief bloedverlies op 6 uur na gecombineerde coronaire bypass chirurgie en klepchirurgie voorspellen
Study design
English:
Measurements of platelet reactivity and thromboelastography are done at 4 timepoints:
T 0 = After induction of general anesthesia
T 1 = On cardiopulmonary bypass (in-vivo heparinized blood)
T 2 = After discontinuation of cardiopulmonary bypass and antagonization of heparin
T 3 = After the patient has arrived at the intensive care unit
Dutch:
Metingen plaatjesreactiviteit en thrombo-elastografie:
T 0 = Na inductie van de anesthesie.
T 1 = Tijdens de hartlongmachine (in vivo gehepariniseerde patiënt)
T 2 = Na staken van de hartlongmachine en nadat de heparine geantagoneerd is
T 3 = Nadat de patiënt op de intensive care unit is aangekomen

Inclusion criteria
English:
- Age >18 years
- Mentally competent
- Planned for CABG in combination with valve surgery
Dutch:
- > 18 jaar
- Wilsbekwaam
- Gepland voor CABG + (meervoudige) hartklep operatie of meervoudige hartklep
operatie
Exclusion criteria
English:
- Congenital or acquired bleeding or clotting disorders
- Cardial reoperation within 1 year of screening
- Pregnancy
Dutch:
- Congenitaal of verworven gestoorde stolling
- Cardiale reoperatie binnen een periode van een jaar
- Zwangerschap
