Outcome measures
Primary outcome
Clinical effect in change in International Knee Documentation Committee” (IKDC) questionnaire over a period of 24 months.
Secondary outcome
Tegner score, NRS, KOOS, satisfaction with treatment, kenisiophobia, E5-5D-5L, costs, adverse events, physical examination, surgeons fidelity to intervention
Background summary
Evaluate effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a treatment algorithm for patients with an anterior cruciate ligament rupture compared to current practice.
Study objective
Treatment algorithm will lead to earlier identification of patients indicated for surgical reconstruction and exercise program.
Study design
3, 6, 12 and 24 months
Intervention
Intervention group will contain patients treated by our treatment algorithm. This will be a shared decision between surgeon and patient. Control group will contain patients treated by normal practice.
Inclusion criteria
18 years or older, complete primary ACL rupture (MRI + physical examination confirmed) and willing to participate
Exclusion criteria
Multi ligament trauma and insufficient command of the dutch language
