Background summary
Evaluation of dental implant treatment are mostly based on studies with well-controlled study groups treated within a university-based setting. There are no long-term observational practice-based studies known on implant-supported overdentures. The present retrospective study deals with implant survival, peri-implant hard and soft tissue health and satisfaction of patients treated with a mandibular overdenture in a general practice in the Netherlands.
Study objective
Implant survival rate of 90% or higher
Study design
Radiographic bone level changes: radiographs at start of functional loading and at the evaluation visit (difference between two radiographs)
Survival of implants: throughout the follow-up period from implant placement to evaluation visit (medical record)
Peri-implant health: at the evaluation visit (score form with indexes)
Patient satisfaction: at the evaluation visit (questionnaire)
Intervention
Dental implant placement and overdenture
Inclusion criteria
