Outcome measures
Primary outcome
The primary outcome of this research study is to have taken inventory of the needs and wishes surrounding activating activities, on the part of the patients on the Neurology ward.
Secondary outcome
The secondary outcome of this research study is to have taken inventory of the wishes of the nursing staff on the Neurology ward, surrounding the activating activities for patients admitted there, as well as the obstacles standing in the way of these activities, from a nursing point of view.
Background summary
I’m doing research on the situation on the Neurology ward, West 44, in the Zuyderland Medical Center, location Sittard-Geleen. Patients and nurses have realized that there is too little activation of patients who want and are able to participate in activities. My research is focused on the hows and whys of the current situation with the purpose of presenting the staff of the Neurology ward with a workable intervention plan, to be implemented in May-June, 2018.
Study objective
During the admission period, and in a one-occupant room, patients don't always use an effective coping strategy in dealing with the loneliness or boredom that ensue. By implementing structural activities, patients become more active which in turn helps them to cope with the admission.
Study design
Qualitative research. There is only one timepoint: interviewing patients and nurses.

Inclusion criteria
Nurses and patients admitted to ward West 44, Neurology department in the Zuyderland Medical Centre, location Sittard-Geleen.
Exclusion criteria
Nurses and patients from other wards.
