Outcome measures
Primary outcome
- Changes in measured muscle mass
- Changes in measured extracellular water
- Changes in measured intracellular water
- Influence of catheter or IV fluid on measurements
- Correlation between these changes
Secondary outcome
- influence of nutritional changes/meals on measurement of musclemass
- Correlation between clinically estimated hydrational status, estimated serum osmolality and measured serum osmolality.
Study objective
Hypothesis A: We expect a decline in measured musclemass during the initial days of hospital admission, also we do not expect hydrational changes to be of great influence on estimated muscle mass.
Hypothesis B: We expect that the time of the day on which bioelectrical impedance measurements are executed does not significantly influence estimated results.
Hypothesis C: we expect only a crude correlation between clinically estimated hydrational status, estimated serum osmolality and measured serum osmolality
Study design
Measurements on four or five consequtive days for sub population A
Three consequtive measurements on one day for studypopulation B
Intervention
Multifrequency Bioelectrical impedance analysis using Maltron 920 II S
