Outcome measures
Primary outcome
The use of nurse practitioners instead of medical interns will result in a better, more consistent and more continuous care.
January 2008, a baseline-measurement will be done. The same measurement will be done 12 months later and results will be compared.
This measurement consists of the following items:
1. a patient poll (VAS-scale, approximately 30 questions) regarding their perception of the care they received during their stay;
2. a poll among general practitioners in the region;
3. measurement of faulty prescriptions in the hospital pharmacy;
4. measurement of the average time patients reside in the hospital.
Secondary outcome
The use of nurse practitioners will lead to:
1. more efficient care;
2. reduced in-hospital period;
3. better and more information to patients and relatives during their stay;
4. more complete use of cardiac protocols regarding the treatment;
5. reduction of medication errors with patients who leave the hospital;
6. better perception of cardiac care by the patients general practitioner.
