Background summary
This randomized controlled trial takes place at the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Tilburg, The Netherlands. All participants are recruted at the Preoperative Screening. Included are surgerypatients at daycare centre over 18 year old, receiving full anaesthetics, ASA 1.
Excluded are patient with CVD, mental diseases, visual and hearing impairment, not understanding Dutch language. 200 particpants are at random blinded allocated to the preoperative music intervention or the controlgroup.
Primary outcomes: coping, state and trait anxiety, bloodpressure, heartrate and skintemparature.
Objective: to compare preoperative musicintervention with a control group receiving care-as-usual and the role of coping.
Study objective
1. There is a medaiting effect of coping on the relation between preoperative stress and perioperative anxiety?
2. In comparison to no music there is a reinforcing influence of self-chosen music on the relation between ( emotion-focused) coping and anxiety.
Study design
t0= one week before surgery
t1= arrival at the holding of the OR

Inclusion criteria
ASA 1, < 18 years, full anaesthesia, daycare centre patients
Exclusion criteria
oncology patients, mental diseases, abnormal bloodpressure and heartrate, visual and/or hearing impairment, not understanding Dutch language
