Background summary
The goal of this study is to get insight into the preconditions and feasibility of participation of elderly residents with dementia en family members in nursing homes.
The study has a qualitatie explorative design using appreciative inquiry.
All elderly with dementia who live in two units in a nursing home in the southern part of the Netherlands will be included (ntotal population sampling n=41), also their family care givers (n=41).
Data are collected by means of interviews and focus groups and continuous participant observation.
Data will be analysed by contect collections.
Study objective
The goal of this study is to get insight into the preconditions and feasibility of participation of elderly residents with dementia en family members in nursing homes.
The research questions are:
Which preconditions are necessary to sucesfully implement the particiation of elderly with dementia and family members?
Which facilitators and barriers influence the feasibility?
Study design
Continuous participant observations throughout the project. Weekly observational measurements based on the following three variables: Actors, actions, activities

Total population sampling: All elderly residents who live in two units in a nursing home in the southern part of the Netherlands (n=41) and their family care givers (n=41).
