Outcome measures
Primary outcome
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the use of ultrasonography in detection of occult scaphoid fractures. Sensitivity, specificity and positive and negative predictive values for ultrasonography in comparison with a CT-scan.
Secondary outcome
Subanalysis of different fractures types:
1. Proximal pole fractures;
2. Waist fractures;
3. Distal pole fractures.

1. Initial presentation at emergency room;
2. Within 7 - 10 days after presentation at emergency room.
Intervention
Ultrasonography of wrist and subsequently a wrist CT.

Inclusion criteria
1. Clinical suspicion of a scaphoid fracture;
2. Normal hand/wrist radiographs;
3. Age > 18 years.
Exclusion criteria
1. Other fractures in the affected extremity;
2. Multi trauma patients;
3. Open fractures of the hand;
4. Pregnancy;
5. Insufficient understanding of written and spoken Dutch language.
