Primary outcome
Improvement of parents’ communication- and education skills about alcohol-, tobacco- and cannabis use. Parents have to fill in online questionnaires.

Background summary
The aim is to assess the effectiveness of the training “Talking with your child” (= “Praten met uw Kind”). A randomized controlled trial will be conducted including parents of adolescents in the in the age of 13-15 years (first and second grades of secondary school). Aim is to improve parents' communication- and education skills about alcohol-, tobacco-, and cannabis use.

Intervention
"Talking with your child" is a pilot Randomized Controlled Trial with two arms:
1. Intervention condition: The intervention group receives the online training “Talking to your child”. The online training includes information, short movie clips, and exercises. The training will be offered in 6-8 modules, which each takes about 15-20 minutes;
2. Control condition: The control group receives brochures about smoking, alcohol and drugs.

Inclusion criteria
Parents of adolescents in the age of 13-15 years (first and second grades of secondary school). Parents will be recruited through the schools of their children. No other specific eligibility criteria are established.
