Outcome measures
Primary outcome
Change in healthcare utilization in 12 months after baseline assessment as compared to year preceding assessment.
Secondary outcome
Change in ACQ and AQLQ.
Predictors of response.
Background summary
Patients with uncontrolled asthma report ongoing symptoms, poor quality of life and extensive healthcare utilization and might benefit from management by a specialized severe asthma team. However, it is unknown whether a one-time evaluation and advice from asthma experts, without long-term supervision, provides favorable outcomes. Therefore we prospectively evaluate asthma control (ACQ), quality of life (AQLQ) and healthcare utilization (HCU) before and 1 yr after a one-day-visit program in a specialized severe asthma centre, including a systematic multidisciplinary assessment resulting in a personalized management plan to be implemented by patients own pulmonologists.
Study objective
A one-day-visit systematic assessment in a specialized severe asthma centre contributes to improvement in asthma control, quality of life and healthcare utilization.
Study design
All baseline data will be collected in 1 day visit.
Patients will be asked to complete questionnaires (ACQ, AQLQ, HCU) at 6 months and 12 months after baseline.

Inclusion criteria
Adult non-smoking patients with uncontrolled asthma referred by pulmonologists from several hospitals in the Netherlands to our severe asthma centre (Medical Centre Leeuwarden, The Netherlands).
