Brief title
Health condition
Cortical strokes versus lacunar strokes.
Sponsors and support
Supervisor: Dr. C. Franke, Neurologist, Atrium MC, Heerlen.
Intervention
Outcome measures
Primary outcome
Worsening of more than 2 points on the NIHSS scores during the stay on the brain care unit.
Secondary outcome
N/A
Background summary
Trial to compare secondary worsening (by scoring the NIHSS), during the stay on the brain care unit, in patients with lacunar stroke versus patients with cortical stroke.
Study objective
Lacunar strokes tend to show secondary worsening of symptoms, more often than cortical strokes.
This is probably due to (extreme) blood pressure falls during the night in hypertensive patient's, causing hypoperfusion of the brain.
Study design
NIHSS score after entering the hospital, leaving the braincare unit and if there is a secondary worsening of symptoms during the stay on the brain care unit.
