Background summary
In this trial we will compare the effectiveness of an intervention previously developed and evaliated in the Netherlands to improve hand hygiene behaviour in pre-schools in a 3 arm randomized controlled trial. One control arm will receive no intervention, 1 control arm an intervention at the pre-school including training and hand hygiene facilities and the third arm will receive the intervebtion at the pre-school plus materials for families to use at home (home intervention).
Study objective
A behavioural intervention will improve hand hygiene baviour and prevent the transmission of hand foot mouth disease

Children and staff at pre-schools in Shenzhen, China
Exclusion criteria
Schools for children older than 6 years old; pre-schools without a school doctor; pre-schools not recognized by the Ministry for Education
