Shape of the lunate bone

Background summary
A retrospective case-control study to determine the similarity between the left and right lunate bones. CT-scans of the wrists of 60 individuals with healthy lunate bones will be analyzed using statistical shape modelling to determine the similarity between the left and right side.
Study objective
Our hypothesis is that there is no difference between the shape of the left and right lunate bone in healthy individuals.

Inclusion criteria
In order to be eligible to participate in this study, a subject must meet all of the following criteria:
- Adult patients
- No pathology present affecting the lunate bone (e.g. no severe osteoarthritis or other post-traumatic pathology affecting the shape of the bone)
- CT-scans available of both lower arms/wrists
Exclusion criteria
A potential subject who meets any of the following criteria will be excluded from participation in this study:
- History of previous pathology of carpal bones (Kienbock’s disease, proximale row carpectomy, advanced osteoarthritis wrist).
- History of congenital disease or abnormality of the upper limb
- Poor quality of radiographs
