Primary outcome
Depressive complaints according to patient, therapist and independent rater at week 5, 10, 22 and 52.

Quality of life, predictors of treatment outcome at week 22 and 52

A randomized clinical trail comparing the efficacy, efficiency and applicability of Short-term Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Short-term Psychoanalytical Supportive Psychotherapy in the treatment of depressive disorders.

Intervention
Mild to moderate depression (HDRS score 14-24):
Short-term Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Short-term Psychoanalytical Supportive Psychotherapy, 16 sessions of 45 minutes, during 22 weeks.
Severe depressive symptoms (HDRS score > 24): Combination treatment;
psychotherapy as mentioned above in combination with antidepressants.

Inclusion criteria
Main diagnose Major Depressive Episode, Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymic Disorder or Depressive Disorder NOS according to DSM-IV criteria, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) score > 14, age 18-65, written informed consent.
Exclusion criteria
Bipolar Disorder, Depressive disorder with psychotic features, suicide risk, loss of impulse-control, use of anti-depressants, use of anti-psychotics or mood stabilizers, substance abuse, language problems, contact with same Mentrum location within last 6 months.
