Background summary
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the adherence to the national guidelines from the Dutch Association of Paediatric Medicine (NVK) “Fever in secondary care setting in children aged 0-16 years” in current paediatric hospital practice. The secondary objectives include evaluating differences between the adherence group compared to the non-adherence group
regarding: patient characteristics, the amount of diagnostic testing and antibiotic treatment, the number of severe infections and clinical outcome.
Study objective
Adherence to the national guidelines is estimated at around 50%. Non-adherence does not lead to significant differences in clinical outcome such as readmission rate.
