Study objective
The stump and the intact leg of patients with a transfemoral amputation or knee disarticulation show an increased somatosensory function to compensate for the loss of sensory afferents associated with the amputation.
Study design
Single measurement.
Intervention
1. Touch pressure threshold detection;
2. Joint position sense.
Inclusion criteria
1. Patients with a unilateral transfemoral amputation or a knee disarticulation;
2. Functional level from K2 - K4;
3. At least one year post amputation;
4. Amputation due to trauma or vascular problems.
Exclusion criteria
1. Amputation based on/consequence of congenital deformities;
2. Other musculoskeletal problems influencing walking abiltiy;
3. Skin problems (wound/ulcers) on test sites.
