Background summary
Generation R Next is population-based cohort study from preconception onwards, studying women and their partners already before conception. The collected information will be used to study the influence of parental social deprivation (income, education, work, financial problems, social network), lifestyle (diet, supplement use, alcohol, smoking, illicit drug use, physical activity, stress) and use of health care on the risk of overweight, growth disorders, problems with attachment, decreased school performance and lack of social participation of their children. Eventually, results will be implemented in health care practice to reduce the disadvantage that vulnerable children are facing from early life onwards.
Study objective
The overall hypothesis of this study is that exposures before conception and in early life (embryonic and fetal period and early childhood) are associated with health outcomes in later life.
