Background summary
The number of children with overweight has increased dramatically over the past
years. The principal cause of the increasing number of overweight children is
an imbalance between energy intake and energy expendure. There is a urgent need
for a well defined and validated method to measure energy intake and expendure.
This method is of great importance to gain reliable data for studies in young
children.
Study objective
To validate the developed food frequency questionnaire using the double labeled
water method.
Study design
A parallel, open study in two groups of young children
The double labeled water method will be used to validate the food frequency
questionnaire.
Study burden and risks
The double labeled method has proved to be a reliable and safe method in young
children.
