Background summary
Traumatic reactions to childbirth are an important public health issue. Risk
factors have been identified. Many of them could be detected during pregnancy.
However, a suitable instrument is lacking. Also it is not clear how to
intervene to reduce the traumatic reactions to childbirth. Anticipating on a
prospective study on this issue, in this retrospective cohort study the
prevalence will be measured of postpartum posttraumatic stress symptoms,
depression, anxiety and the need of control in women delivered in The
Netherlands 1. at home, 2. in a rural hospital and 3. in a university hospital
.
