Outcome measures
Primary outcome
* Assessment of General Personality Disorder (AGPD): a new questionnaire made
to measure core components of personality pathology.
* Severity Indices of Personality Problems (SIPP): an existing questionnaire
focused on measurement of the severity of manifest personality pathology.
* Neo-Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R): a questionnaire in which the
Five-Factor model is operationalised.
* Temperament Character Inventory (TCI), the subscales Self directedness and
Cooperativeness: an existing questionnaire, these two subscales are found to be
strongly related to core aspects of personality pathology.
These four questionnaires are the ones that measure core components of
personality pathology. The remaining questionnaires are used for external
criteria.
* Dimensional Assessment of Personality Pathology - Basic Questionnaire
(DAPP-BQ): this questionnaire is comparable to the NEO-PI-R, but it shows more
strongly the pathological aspects of the personality.
* Assessment of DSM Personality Disorders-IV (ADP-IV): a self-report
questionnaire of AxisII, combined with a measure of severity of pathology.
* Structured Clinical Interview for the DSM-AsII (SCID-II): a semi structured
interview of Axis II.

Background summary
Nowadays the assessment of personality disorders in mental health care is
little efficient, at times too coarse, complex and when done meticulously it
takes up a great deal of time. The aim of this study is to develop an
instrument which can be used at the intake in mental health care to determine
in a clinically relevant, valid and time efficient way the presence and measure
of severity of a personality disorder with regards to assessment and treatment
assignment.
Study objective
1. To examine the structure and validity of existing models for General
Personality Disorder, or at least the core components of disordered functioning
of the personality.
2. To develop a meta model with regards to the criteria for the General
Personality Disorder on the basis of simililarities between the existing
models, and the development of a valid instrument to measure the criteria for
the GPD.
Study design
The study is divided into two stages. In the first stage existing models with
regards to General Personality Disorder or a similar concept are compared and
examined with regards to the underlying factor structure and severity
dimension, and will be compared with an external criterium, which is the Axis
II of the DSM-IV.
In the second stage of the study the underlying factor structure of the models
of GPD will be operationalised further to an assessment method in which the
main dimensions and severity dimensions are measured.
Study burden and risks
A diagnostic interview (SCID-II) will be administered and subjects have to fill
in six personality questionnaires. The interview is 1,5 hrs and the
questionnaires take approximately 3 hours. There are no risks involved when
participating in this study.
