Outcome measures
Primary outcome
Treatment outcome measured by the OQ-45, the BSI and a schale to measure
clients satisfaction about the treatment.
Treatment outcome measured by the percentage of drop-out.
Secondary outcome
Explorative research on the effect of feedback on treatment by different
disciplines. Because of the limited researchpopulation we only can look for
trends.
Explorative research on the correlation between clientcharacteristics and the
effect of feedback.
Background summary
Patient-focused research systems have been developed to monitor and inform
therapists and patients of patients' treatment progress in psychotherapy as a
method of enhancing outcome.
Like feedback on the patients progress, feedback on the therapeutic alliance
seems important. Because therapists are known to have a limited view on how the
patient experiences the therapeutic alliance. Allthough the therapeutic
alliance forms the base of the treatment and often causes drop-out or limited
treatment outcome.
The feedbackresearch untill now was focused on treatment by psychotherapists.
Because the feedback is not about a special treatmentmethod, it seems likely
that treatments by other disciplines working in the outpatient GGZ, will
improve aswell by such a feedbacksystem.
Study objective
This study investigates the effects of monitoring patient progress and the
development of the therapeutic alliance from patients perspective and providing
infromation to both, patients and therapists.
Study design
This study is a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) with 2 parallel conditions.
In both conditions the treatment will be monitored each session. In the
controlgroup there will be no feedback given at all to therapist and client. In
the feedbackgroup the feedback is given each session. Clients will be followed
for 10 sessions.
Intervention
Feedback each session about the patient progress and the development of the
therapeutic alliance from patients perspective.
Study burden and risks
The burden for clients is to complete questionaires. This will take maximum 220
minutes during the whole research.
