Background summary
There is a need for a non-ivasive, definite treatment for patients with chronic
testicular pain in which no causing pathology can be found on standard
diagnostic investigation
Study objective
To investigate the effect of pelvic floor physiotherapy on chronic testicular
pain and on accompanying symptoms. To investigate the effect of pelvic floor
physiotherapy on the muscle tone of the pelvic floor. To provide a better
comprehension of the treatment options in patients with chronic testicular
pain.
Study design
Patients with chronic testicular pain who are treated by a pelvic floor
physiotherapist are invited by letter to administer a questionnaire (PelFIs)
and to undergo an EMG registration of the pelvic floor at the outpatient
department of urology at the Leiden University Medical Center. These results
will be compared to the outcomes of the questionnaire and EMG registration
prior to treatment by the pelvic floor physiotherapist
Study burden and risks
Patiens undergo an EMG registration of the pelvic floor. This is performed with
an anal probe. It is a standard investigation in pelvic floor physiotherapy,
and all patients underwent it before. The investigation can be mildely painful.
