Background summary
Erosive tooth wear is becoming increasingly significant in the management of
the long-term health of the dentition. Especially among adolescents the
prevalence of erosion is high. To estimate the clinical effect of preventive
measurements, information about the amount of erosive wear in adolescents is
necessary.
Study objective
The aim of this study is to assess (variation in) the rate of wear in
adolescents with erosive tooth wear in a 6 month period.

Study burden and risks
The children need to attend the dental clinic three times in a six month
period. One bracket and iron metal sections will be placed on their teeth.
Silicone impressions will be made. The risks associated with participation are
negligible. The only burden for these children is wearing a bracket that might
irritate the buccal mucosa in the first two weeks and a higher risk of
development of caries next to the bracket.
