Background summary
An increasing number of migrants apply for help from the Dutch mental health
care services. The relationship between clients and care staff, however, is
still problematic, leading to poor commitment, drop-out and poor treatment
results.
Shared decion making leads to greater treatment satisfaction amd results.
Decision aids are developed to facilitate shared decision making. They are web
based applications that provide clients with evidence based information on
disorders and treatment options. They also help clients to investigate their
personal considerations regarding their treatment. Decision aids may be used
privately at home or with the therapist.
Recently a decision aid has become available for Turkish and Moroccan Dutch
clients with depression. A pilot study showed that clients and care staff are
positive about the use of a decision aid. For implementation in the Dutch
mental health care research data are needed on the effects of the use of the
decision aid.
