Outcome measures
Primary outcome
The main study parameter is the rate of appearance of exogenous glucose (RaE)
based on the dual isotope technique.
Secondary outcome
blood glucose and insulin concentrations
Background summary
Consumption of foods with reduced/prolonged rate of digestion and entry of
glucose into the circulation may benefit the management of type 2 diabetes and
may decrease the risk for the development of obesity.
Study objective
The effect of different flour compositions in a carbohydrate food product on
exogenous and total blood glucose.
Study design
double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, full cross-over design
Intervention
The study will start with a screening. At the screening a physical examination
will take place. Furthermore a blood and urine sample will be taken for
laboratory tests and an alcohol breath test and drug screen will be done.
During the stay in the clinic the subject will receive the test meal and on
several time points blood will be taken. The subjects will be asked for
possible side effects on a regular basis.
Study burden and risks
No side effects of the test product are expected. The blood collection may
cause discomfort or bruising. Occasionally, fainting, an infection at the blood
sampling site, bleeding and blood clot formation can occur.
