Background summary
Malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies occur often among elderly COPD patients.
Possible causes are less food intake, e.g. due to shortness of breath and/or
higher nergy needs. Besides this, medication can influence appetite and
intestine function. These deficiencies have influence on the burden of the
disease and the quality of life.

of a group of Dutch elderly COPD patients. Furthermore, we will investigate if
there is a relationshop between vitamin deficiencies and perceived burden of
the disease. The vitamins A, B1, B6, C, D, E, B12 and folic acid will be
investigated. Vitamin status will be correlated tot disease severity and
quality of life.
