Outcome measures
Primary outcome
Percentage seropositivity in the different groups.
Secondary outcome
Percentage of participants with correct perception of past Covid-19 infection.
Background summary
Health care workers could be at increased risk for infection with SARS-CoV-2
through different routes of exposure. One possible route of transmission could
be exposure to proven COVID-19 patients within the hospital. If working on a
hospital ward with COVID-19 patients is a risk for acquiring the virus, the
seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among healthcare workers from these
wards will be higher as compared to healthcare workers who worked on
non-COVID-19 wards during the same period.
Study objective
To investigate if healthcare workers who were in contact with COVID-19 patients
by working on COVID-19 wards have a higher chance of becoming infected, as
measured by antibody responses.
Study design
Healthcare workers from units where COVID-19 patients were cared for are
offered a single blood test, to investigate the presence of SARS-CoV-2
antibodies. The same test is offered to healthcare workers who had contact with
non-COVID-19 patients during the same period. This group serves as control
group. A small number of questions is asked concerning past infection and
previous febrile episodes
Study burden and risks
Very low burden and negligible risk involved for participants.
