Primary outcome
The main study parameter is the difference of immune response to above
mentioned hidradenitis suppurativa triggering factors, forexample the
cytokine/antimicrobial profile after microbial exposure in HS patients compared
to healthy controls.
Secondary outcome

Background summary
Hidradenitis suppurativa is considered a complex disease involving several
factors. The clinical presentation of hidradenitis suppurativa appears
reminiscent of bacterial infection. However, the role of these bacterial
species is poorly understood and is far from resolved. Other important
associated factors are smoking and obesity. In order to gain more insights into
the pathogenesis of hidradenitis suppurativa, especially in the interaction
between commensal flora, cigarette smoke components, adipokines and the immune
system, further exploration is required.
Study objective
To investigate the functional implications of bacteria, cigarette smoke
components and adipokines in the pathology of hidradenitis suppurativa by
analyzing the cytokine profiles and the antimicrobial peptide profiles in
peripheral bloodsamples of patients withhidradenitis suppurativa and healthy
controls.

Study burden and risks
The subject will not directly benefit from this research, but participation
contributes to an increase in knowledge about hidradenitis suppurativa and
subsequently improving treatment and care.
