Primary outcome
The acquired images of the Cardiac SMS scanning sequences will be compared on
diagnostic quality by blinded independent observers including a PhD student and
a radiologist.
Secondary outcome
Not applicable.
Background summary
Cardiac Simultaneous Multi-slice Sequencing is a new technique to image cines
for heart function, volume and mass and late enhancement for myocardial
scarring which are over 2 times faster than the sequences used in current
clinical care.
By performing this prospective research, if successful, the decision can be
made to implement this technique in routine clinical care, reducing scan times
by half for all patients undergoing cardiac MRI.
Study objective
By performing this study, in case the results are positive (SMS images are
equally diagnostic as compared to current imaging techniques), the SMS sequence
can be implemented in standard clinical care for patients referred for cardiac
MRI, reducing scan-time by half or more for every patient.
Study design
This is a prospective cardiac MRI validation study.
In total 20 patients referred for cardiac MRI, who recently undergone or soon
will undergo cardiac MRI scanning in a standard clinical setting will be asked
to enroll for this study. The patient has to visit our center one time for the
study scan after undergoing the routine scan at a previous moment. The scan
will take 30 minutes to a maximum of 60 minutes using the SMS sequences. The
resulting data will be compared to the clinical routine data in a blinded
setting for diagnostic performance. If the cardiac SMS sequence has a positive
score, it will be considered for clinical implementation.
Study burden and risks
This study has no impact on treatment and no measurable effects on the
participant.
