Background summary
Diverticulitis is an inflammatory condition affecting the colon and is treated in accordance to the modified Hinchey classification expectatively, conservatively with antibiotics or surgically with percutaneous drainage or targeted resection of the colon. There is ample evidence to support treatment modalities in healthy adults, however for immunocompromised patients the most effective treatment strategy remains unclear. In this retrospective singe-center cohort study we aim to evaluate the disease course of immunocompromised adults and compare it to the disease course of previously healhty patients. We find this will provide us with information necessary to determine the most effective and safe treatment strategy.
Study objective
To evaluate the disease course of diverticulitis in immunocompromised patients to determine a safe and effective treatment strategy.
Study design
Retrospective cohort study.
Intervention
Disease course of diverticulitis
Study burden and risks
None, patients will not be exposed to treatment and will not be approached for questionnaires.
