Study objective
Generation R studies growth, development and health from early pregnancy into adulthood. The study aims to contribute to the development of strategies for optimising health and health care across the full life course.
Study design
Generation R is a multidisciplinary observational prospective population-based cohort study in the city of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In December 2001, Generation R started recruitment of pregnant women for a long-term study into growth, development and health of children born in Rotterdam. All pregnant women in Rotterdam with a due date between April 2002 and January 2006 were asked to participate. A total of 9,778 women were included. The women and their children are being followed-up prospectively since then. As a continuation of Generation R Phase 1 (pregnancy), Phase 2 (early childhood), Phase 3 (primary school age), and Phase 4 (adolescence), in Phase 5, around the ages of 22-25 years and 26-30 years, we will continue to collect data and material of the young adults and the mothers.
