Achtergrond van het onderzoek
The Dutch mental health care services manage to reach a growing number of clients of Turkish or Moroccan origins. The relationship between Turkish/Moroccan clients and their caregiver is, however, often marked by miscommunication, leading to dissatisfaction, drop-out, limited treatment adherence and poor treatment results.
Shared decision making shows great promise in mental health care and can be facilitated by the use of web based decision aids that inform the client of evidence based treatment options and helps clarify personal considerations.
The present study focuses of the effects of the use of a decision aid for Turkish and Moroccan clients with depression. In this study the decision aid is used in a clinical setting where client and caregiver together work through the decision aid.
In a pragmatic randomised controlled trial the effects are studied of the use of the decision aid on satisfaction with caregiver relationship, satisfaction with treatment, treatment adherence, and depressive complaints
Two mental health care organisations participate with 20 trained caregivers and 200 clients. Data are collected through standard registrations and questionnaires.
