The primary aim of this study is to determine the effects of GAHT on the oral health status of the participants undergoing GAHT therapy.
Achtergrond van het onderzoek
This research focuses on the possible changes transgender individuals experience in their oral health and their oral micro/mycobiome composition as a result of gender affirming hormone therapy. The study checks the oral health, oral micro/mycobiome composition and oral self perception of the participants on the day they start their treatment, 3, 6 and 12 months later

Belangrijkste voorwaarden om deel te mogen nemen (Inclusiecriteria)
- Mentally competent
- Age between 18 and 35 years old
- Non-smokers
- For trans men: only individuals using Androgel at the start of the study
- Last visit to the dentist 1 year ago or less
Belangrijkste redenen om niet deel te kunnen nemen (Exclusiecriteria)
- Evidence of any systemic disease or compromised health condition
- Medication use (on a daily basis, other than medication for the purpose of GAHT)
- Use of antibiotics during the last 2 months
- Use of antifungals during the last 2 months
- Need of antibiotic prophylaxis prior to dental treatment
- The use of anti-inflammatory drugs on a regular basis
- Long-term prescribed medication
- Active periodontal disease: pockets ≥ 5mm and/or more than 50% of bleeding sites assessed by bleeding on probing (BOP)
- Overt caries
