Overview of measures taken in preparation for COVID-19
Achtergrond van het onderzoek
On the first of March the WHO declared the spread of SARS-CoV-2 a pandemic. On the 27th of February 2020 the first Dutch patient was tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. The Emergency Department (ED) is very vulnerable during a pandemic. The additional amount of infected patients presenting to the ED can transcend the ED capacity due to a shortage of space medical material and personnel. Contagion can lead to an increase in absenteeism among personnel, exacerbating the problem. Isolation measures are crucial, but consist of lengthy procedures and labour intensive care. A pandemic therefore requires an appropriate response of ED’s to be able to guarantee emergent care that is safe for patients and personnel. Through a questionnaire among Dutch ED’s we want to form an overview of measures taken in different Dutch ED’s during the first surge of COVID-19 patients.
