Resource for future research questions
Achtergrond van het onderzoek
The human brain is civilization's most precious resource. It enables us to be the conscious and social human beings that we are, both creating and interacting with our increasingly complex environment. It is also at the core when it comes to major societal challenges like mental health, well-being and healthy behaviour, education, societal decisions and interactions. Fortunately, due to developments in different scientific fields, the endeavour to understand the human brain has seen more progress in the last few decades than in the two millennia before. To make a globally unique next step forward in understanding the complexity of the human brain and how it interacts with the body and society it is acting in, we will adopt a novel and innovative approach to integrate scientific expertise. In this context, we are in need to understand individual differences and dynamic changes and thus, we will study a large sample of individuals assessed across a period of time. Finally, high ecological validity is required to predict behaviour in real life. Therefore, we will apply ecological momentary assessments of mental states, behaviour, and (appraisal of) context in daily life.
Objective: To better understand the human brain by understanding cognition, affect and behaviour in daily life and how these are related to neural, biological and social factors.
Study design: Volunteers will be deeply and dynamically studied across an entire year in relevant cognitive, affective and behavioural domains, using questionnaires, laboratory assessments, and repeated measures such as experience sampling with and without wearables, against a background of diverse neural, biological and social data.
Study population: Healthy volunteers (N=1000, age 30-39) will be recruited from the region Nijmegen. Healthy adults in this age range are beyond the age of major neurodevelopmental changes and before the onset of neurodegenerative changes. We aim to recruit a population based sample of relatively healthy individuals.
Main study parameters/endpoints: resource for future research questions.
