Nutritional status and habits of the children aged 0.5-12 y in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. The nutritional status will be assessed based on physical measurements and analysis of blood samples of selected nutrients. Nutritional habits will be assessed with food frequency and habit questionnaires. All measurements will be carried out during daytime.
Achtergrond van het onderzoek
Background:
Knowledge about nutritional status and habits of children will facilitate designing strategies for improvement of their nutritional status. However, national wide data are not complete or even scarce for children in the Southeast countries.
Objective:
The nutritional status and habits of the children aged 0.5-12 y in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. DESIGN: In total 16644 children aged 0.5-12 y will be recruited. The nutritional status will be assessed based on physical measurements and analysis of blood samples of selected nutrients. Nutritional habits will be assessed with food frequency and habit questionnaires. Furthermore, physical activity and cognitive function of the children will be assessed with questionnaires.

Belangrijkste voorwaarden om deel te mogen nemen (Inclusiecriteria)
1. Apparently healthy children aged 0.5-12 years without signs of physical, mental or genetic disorders, and who are capable of participating in the study;
2. Participation of the child is approved (written consent) by parents and or caregivers.
The survey will be carried out in schools, in collaboration with the schools and health offices of the local government. Sampling procedure follows randomization design. Children in selected locations who fulfill our inclusion criteria will be recruited.
