Achtergrond van het onderzoek
According to previous studies, there are many other sleep-related disorders that may be related with sleep bruxism. Insight into the underlying mechanism of these relationships may assist the clinician in making a distinction between the primary and secondary forms of SB. In the absence of an underlying medical etiology, SB is considered primary, or idiopathic, whereas secondary SB is associated with a medical condition. The distinction between these two forms is important, as the management may be distinct. To our best knowledge, no large-scale polysomnographic studies have been performed on SB in patients with other sleep-related disorders. Therefore, the aims of this large-scale cohort study is : 1. to determine the prevalence of SB in patients with other sleep-related disorders; 2. and to determine the associations between SB and other sleep-related disorders.
